from the beginning

As my business of over 30 years began, I photographed things that were challenging to other photographers.  Friends who had photo-business similar, but not so similar, would refer their commercial assignments and unique requests to me.  I was and am always up for a challenge.  My business grew with a heavy dose of variety and, thankfully, zero in the boredom department.  Always excited to make a photograph.

Soaking up Lessons Like a Sponge

For over 15 years my business was primarily catalogs.  From trophies and cars to furniture and real estate, we did it all.  The print-salesmen for our company would get new clients and with it would be new types of photography.  I never said No.  Yes, there were the outdoorsy clothes catalogs in rustic environments (Lotsa fun) and elegant dresses on beautiful models but many business executives and owners needed to be shown in their catalog and that was always a treat and a welcome challenge, also.

Something different

I learned early that many times the keeper or chosen photo from a photo-session was not the one with a big smile but the best was split seconds before that smile, building up to that smile or, better yet, milliseconds later as that smile calmed itself.

What’s the lesson?  For me, shoot fast and many times in a matter of minutes, shoot a lot!  Do my part to make folks remember something that make a happy, pleasant look showing their success.  Give folks a choice of images and there would always be something that hits a personal nerve for the individual.

For you, enjoy your time in front of the camera and relax.   Have fun being the model for your time in front of the camera.

The Photograph Must Tell a Story

It was always puzzling to me that pictures were to tell something about a person.  Then I became a commercial photographer.  Products, big and small, were photographed and locations and properties and they all had a story.

The story about almost everything I photographed was the same.  Make it look attractive to the folks that buy, so they will buy this attractive, first-class whatever.  They DID and business flourished.

Now take a moment and look at the photographs here on HeadshotsOfGermantown.com and you’ll notice something special about each.

There is a look of confidence, success, helpfulness, or friendliness in the look of each of these people.  I have been successful in helping folks show the strongest of their traits  in a headshot.  It all has to do with arriving at a level of comfort achieved by working with a new friend.  I call that success.

If you are in need of a headshot, please consider allowing me to show you how all that is done.
